About Jane A. Bailey, MD

Originally from Minneapolis, Dr. Bailey received her MD degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School where she received the Janet Glasgow Award for Scholastic Achievement. After an internship at Hennepin County Medical Center, she went on to train in ophthalmology at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, one of the top programs in the country, where she won the P.J. Leinfelder Award for Outstanding Research. She served in the United States Air Force as the Chief of Ophthalmology, Offutt Air Force Base. Dr. Bailey returned to the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology as Clinical Assistant Professor, teaching comprehensive ophthalmology, and neuro-ophthalmology.

“I’ve been in a lot of great places in my life,” says Dr. Bailey, “but I’ve always wanted to come back and take care of people in Minnesota. I love helping people see better and I enjoy explaining how their vision works. I have two hats that I wear at Eye Care Associates. I am a comprehensive ophthalmologist and am also fellowship-trained in neuro-ophthalmology. Cataract surgery and lens implants have improved so much in the years that I have been in practice, and helping patients achieve their visual goals is exciting and rewarding. Neuro-ophthalmology patients often have problems that are difficult to diagnose, and it is very satisfying to help them solve their complex issues.”

Dr. Bailey is a director on the American Board of Ophthalmology. In that role, she helps design assessments and activities assuring that ophthalmologists across the country meet high standards, stay up to date, and practice ethically. In addition, she enjoys writing and has been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). She serves as Editor of the Patient Safety Feature in EyeNet Magazine, the monthly publication of the America Academy of Ophthalmology.

Appointments with Dr. Bailey are available at the historic Medical Arts Building Office in Downtown Minneapolis, the Park Medical Office Building in South Minneapolis and at the Northeast Minneapolis Office on Stinson Boulevard.
